GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This is specialized professional work in the office of the Property Appraiser performing investigations as directed. Individuals in this class are responsible for detecting offenders and preparing cases for proper disposition. Duties involve gathering evidence, preparing case files, and testifying at Value Adjustment Board hearings or in court. Work is performed with a high degree of independent judgment, discretion and initiative under the general supervision of the Director of Homestead Investigations.

QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
- Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid)
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
- Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Most work will be performed as outside field investigations that may require exposure to various
weather conditions
- Some work will involve an office environment

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Investigates suspected offenders of exemption fraud, and submits case report to department Supervision.
- Insures all actions are in compliance with constitutional requirements while investigating suspected offenders.
- Collects, identifies, evaluates and preserves case evidence and maintains statistical data on work as required by supervision.
- Develops and prepares thorough written case reports.
- Provides cooperation and assistance to city police departments, the Sheriff, the State Attorney’s Office, State Department of Revenue, other counties, and other law enforcement agencies in matters of mutual concern.
- Gives testimony at Value Adjustment Board or court hearings, as required.
- Assists with other office investigations as assigned.
- Performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Extensive knowledge of the legal principles of investigations, investigative techniques, and associated legal documentation.
- Knowledge of modern legal research techniques, methods, and procedures.
- Some knowledge of laws, regulations, rules and procedures applicable to exemptions, and the ability to apply this knowledge in pursuing cases.
- Ability to interview and interrogate people and to gather and evaluate evidence.
- Ability to obtain information from computer files.
- Ability to interact with citizens in a courteous, friendly and effective manner, and to establish and maintain a good working relationship with personnel within the Property Appraiser’s Office and other governmental agencies.
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely orally and in writing.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in applying and interpreting Property Appraiser policies and procedures.
- Graduate from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, the behavioral sciences, or other closely related field PLUS five (5) years of experience in law enforcement investigations, OR,
- Graduate from an accredited college or university with an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice, plus 6 years of experience in law enforcement investigations, and substantial course work in law enforcement, OR,
- 8 years experience in law enforcement, investigations, or security work.
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver License.
